Arkansas insurance commissioner seeks exchange support

Arkansas? top insurance official is asking lawmakers to support the state?s application for a nearly $3.8 million dollar grant to begin planning for a key part of the federal health care overhaul.

Arkansas Insurance Commissioner Jay Bradford told a legislative panel on Monday that the state won?t apply for the grant to plan for a health insurance exchange without the Legislature?s support. Friday is the application deadline.

The health care law created new marketplaces for insurance known as exchanges that will open for business in 2014. A bill authorizing Arkansas to set up its exchange stalled in the Legislature earlier this year.

The state House?s top Republican says Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe doesn?t need legislative support to apply for the grant. Bradford said Beebe wouldn?t go forward without lawmakers? backing.

Dealing with life and death, one day at a time (Reuters)

After a popular run in the UK, BBC America will broadcast the first episode of "24 Hours in the ER," a series about daily life in a crowded London emergency department, on Tuesday night, September 27th. Each episode tells the story of one day in the ER (a real one -- sorry, no George Clooney here), from splinters and cuts to bus accidents and knife fights.

The crew used 14 miles of camera cable to set up 70 fixed cameras all around the ER -- allowing them to be out of the way, and to capture every image from the waiting room to the intensive care unit at any given moment. "You just get right to the heart of these amazingly intimate scenes," said the show's senior producer and director Amy Flanagan.

Here, she speaks with Reuters Health about seven of those scenes. Click on the image above to start the slideshow. The last names of all of the patients are not included for confidentiality reasons. All photos are from November 2010 and (c) The Garden Productions Ltd.

Boehner urges Obama send trade deals before TAA vote (Reuters)

WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner urged on Thursday urged President Barack Obama to quickly submit three long-delayed trade deals so the House can vote on them at the same time a worker retraining program demanded by the White House.

"We await the President's submission of the three trade agreements sitting on his desk so the House can consider them in tandem with the Senate-passed GSP/TAA (Generalized System of Preferences/Trade Adjustment Assistance) legislation," Boehner said in a statement.

"If the President submits these agreements promptly, I'm confident that all four bills can be signed into law by mid-October," Boehner said.

9/22/2011 - 8:41 AM PST

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MEDIA ADVISORY
Catholic PRWire

STEUBENVILLE, OH (September 22, 2011) - A new journal, Quaestiones Disputatae, has been launched by Franciscan University of Steubenville's Philosophy Department. The journal features conference proceedings and original contributions on the perennial questions of philosophical inquiry.

"The title of the journal is derived from the medieval dialectical practice known as a 'Disputed Question,'" said Dr. Paul Symington, assistant professor of philosophy at Franciscan University and journal editor. "It?s a method of inquiry that seeks to bring to the forefront profound difficulties while striving to unravel these difficulties in equally profound resolutions, wondrous paths, and ways of wisdom."

Founded by Franciscan University philosophy professor Dr. Mark Roberts, the journal features original work by scholars from all over the world. Current issues represent the fruit of philosophy conferences at Franciscan University of Steubenville and elsewhere. Papers are selected for inclusion by an expert in the field who serves as special guest editor for each issue.

Two editions are available now, one on the philosophy of French Catholic thinker Jean-Luc Marion and one on the legacy of Neoplatonism. Topics for upcoming issues include the philosophy of St. Edith Stein, early Phenomenology, and the philosophy of Dietrich von Hildebrand.

"I am very excited to be editor of the journal," Symington concluded. "I believe that the journal serves a much needed opportunity for like-minded philosophers and scholars to contribute professionally to the richness of the philosophical tradition and the quality of our lives. I look forward to seeing the journal grow as we obtain more contributors, patrons, and topics to tackle."

U.S. subscriptions are $70 for two years. International subscriptions are $120 for two years. To subscribe and find out more about the journal, see www.quaestionesdisputatae.com.

I sent them a job application. Their website offers less information than most about their clients. They say they have 'almost ten', but don't name any, which I found a little odd. I saw on Yahoo! Answers that Home Depot was their only client in May 2010 - have they actually expanded that much so soon? Also, do they offer full time jobs with benefits, or is it commission based sales? Thanks in advance for any help!

It's a sales, commission-based job, much like Vector Marketing. I'm guessing they'll be having you go to different Home Depot stores in the area and sell whatever they're trying to market. You'll be facing very long days (most jobs of this type typically have 10-12 hour work days.. including Saturdays!) and you probably won't make much money. Why are the days so long? These jobs are almost like a cult, since they want you to be involved with the company for basically the entire day. You'll go in at 7am, have these strange "motivational" meetings for a few hours, and then you'll hit the field. Finally you'll come back around 5 or 6pm, have MORE meetings, and then you can at last leave. I'd encourage you to give it a try if it still sounds good, but know what you're in for! One more thing: anything they tell you about positions "filling up really quickly!!" is just to give you a sense of urgency in hopes that you'll take the interview. These companies hire new people by the boatload and ALWAYS have openings. You can probably figure out why at this point. lol

A Commercial Property Can Be a Good Investment

? Types of Insulation | Home | How I made an aquaponic garden. ?

By admin | September 20, 2011

If you have heard that property is a good way to invest, you are right. That holds especially true for commercial property. It holds its value better. But buying an y property has its own issues. You can try to buy it on your own, but you are going to have a really hard time, unless you specialize in the real estate field. There are a lot of things that can really trip you up.

That?s what makes it so important for you to get help when you invest. You want to find a real estate agent to help you. You want to make sure that the agent that you find specializes in commercial property. While buying residential properties and commercial properties have many things in common, there are enough things different that you want to have someone who does nothing about commercial properties.

Using a specialist real estate agent to find your commercial property means that you are going to be able to see properties that will fit in with your budget. You and your real estate agent can work together to come up with a realistic budget. Then they can look at all the properties that they have listed, or have access to, so they can find the one that will best suit your needs. Once you pinpoint your property your agent can help you find all the people that will be needed to get your purchase going. That includes inspectors and other specialists. You need to have those people so that you know what problems there are with the property.

If you want to find a commercial property that you can invest in, find someone who specializes in this kind of property. That way you aren?t having to deal with trying to come up with everything on your own, and you won?t miss something that could hurt you or help you. Use a real estate agent to help you find the perfect agent. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain. you will be glad that you got the help to find your new investment property.

Motorola Atrix 2 peeks out (again) from the wild, destined for AT&T faux G?

Now that the tidal wave of Bionic hype has crashed upon Verizon's shore, it's time to focus our anticipation on Moto's other beast phone -- the Atrix 2. Leaked shots of the AT&T-branded update came to light this past July, giving us a glimpse of its Blur-ified UI and some tentative specs. Well, we still don't have any official confirmation that these new images over on BGR are the real sequel, but the details are lining up with what we know. Purportedly, this handset refresh will not be a member of AT&T's new LTE brigade, although that could very well change. Expect a dual-core setup, 8 megapixel camera with 1080p video capture and Gingerbread 2.3.5 baked-in. Rumor has it the orange-colored carrier intends to ship this before year's end, but will it be enough to sway you from this?

Report: Cowboys RB Jones, WR Austin expected to ... - Fantasy Sports

Cowboys RB Felix Jones and WR Miles Austin suffered injuries in the team's 27-24 overtime win over the 49ers and could miss some time.

According to ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Jones separated his shoulder. He had nine carries for 25 yards on Sunday. Austin pulled his hamstring and might be out through the team's bye week in Week Five, Mortensen reported.

Austin will get checked on Monday. He had nine catches for 143 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

The way we see it

Losing Jones and Austin will present major problems for an already banged up Cowboys offense. Jones and Austin are the team's top two skill players and WR Dez Bryant missed Week Two with a quad injury. Tony Romo suffered a fractured rib, but came back to bring the team to victory.

At running back, look for Tashard Choice and DeMarco Murray to get more touches with Jones out, and some of the team's younger wideouts will need to step up in Austin's absence.
