200 Service Projects in Two Months to Improve the Homes and Lives of Veterans

Today, The Home Depot Foundation if officially launching a sixty day ?Celebration of Service? that will end on Veterans Day (11/11/11). The campaign includes 200 service projects directly aimed at improving homes, facilities and community centers where veterans and their families live and receive services.? From Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, Calif., thousands of Home Depot associates will renovate the homes of disabled veterans, upgrade the facilities of American Legions and VFWs and make much needed repairs for organizations that help veterans successfully transition from military to civilian life.

Just this week, our associates will be taking on three big projects in Baltimore, Orlando and Los Angeles.? Follow The Home Depot Foundation on Facebook (link to www.facebook.com/homedepotfoundation) to see photos and videos of all the action!? In future weeks, we?ll be completing projects in other cities such as:

  • Phoenix:?Working with Arizona Heroes to Hometowns to renovate the homes of injured and disabled veterans
  • Boston:?Performing repairs and making upgrades to the vocational training center at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans
  • Bethesda, MD/Washington DC:? Partnering with the Fisher House Foundation to make needed repairs to the Fisher House where families stay while their wounded loved ones receive treatment at the new National Naval Medical Center/Walter Reed hospital campus.

Celebration of Service is intended not only to help veterans, but also to give veterans the opportunity to continue to serve as leaders in their local communities.? The Home Depot Foundation is partnering with The Mission Continues to engage veterans to participate in volunteer events.? The Mission Continues is a national nonprofit organization that?has committed to transform the lives of post-9/11 veterans by challenging them to serve again as civilians.?? In addition, we have 35,000 veterans working for us at The Home Depot, so we know firsthand what a valuable resource they are in the workplace and in our communities.

To support the courageous men and women who have served and protected our country, our Celebration of Service initiative also includes:

Five percent of the value placed on these? cards?both in-store and online, will be donated to The Home Depot Foundation to support nonprofit organizations serving the housing needs of U.S. military veterans.

  • Partnership with 3 Doors Down

During Celebration of Service, the new album ?Time of My Life? by 3 Doors Down, whose music has inspired and comforted veterans, active duty troops and their families for many years, will be available online at homedepot.com.?
