Where to Watch the Leonid Meteor Shower Around Bardstown-Louisville, Ky., Area (ContributorNetwork)

Meteor showers are an exciting event for everyone involved; the problem is that not everyone lives in a location optimal for meteor shower viewing. I have compiled a list of three places near Bardstown and Louisville, Ky., where you will most likely see the clearest meteors during the Leonid Meteor Shower.

Boston, Ky.: It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Bardstown to Boston and virtually any place in Boston is great for meteor shower viewing. Because it is more of a hamlet than an actual urban city, Boston makes viewing easy and fun. Boston offers a place to view that is far enough away from the bright city lights to see the meteors but close enough to civilization that you do not feel like you are in any danger of being lost. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Boston from the center of Bardstown.

Cox's Creek, Ky.: Cox's Creek is much like Boston except even closer to Bardstown. Cox's Creek is also a small collection of houses with little interference of city lights, which is sure to make viewing optimal. Cox's Creek is a little more grown up in terms of houses than Boston, so you may not be able to find any vacant lots to park and watch. But odds are if you have a friend or are a friend of a friend, someone will be friendly enough to let you watch from their front yard. It takes about 11 minutes to get to Cox's Creek from the center of Bardstown.

New Haven, Ky.: If you live in Bardstown, it's likely you are not going to be able to catch more than a passing glimpse of some of these meteors. So your best bet is to flee to the small outlying townships. New Haven is another one of these small places that offer great viewing of meteor showers. New Haven is a bit bigger than either Boston or Cox's Creek but is still remote enough that you can pull up in just about any parking lot and be able to get a clear shot of the meteor shower. It takes about 21 minutes to get to New Haven from the center of Bardstown.

Any of the places that I have mentioned above are great for viewing meteor showers. I live in Bardstown and the biggest benefit that I can see to all of these places is that they are far enough away from the city that the lights do no interfere but not so far that I feel like there is a chance I may get lost.
